About Jonathan Miller

Jonathan Miller is a furniture designer and builder based in Suffield, in the Connecticut River Valley. After spending over a decade working in finance he felt the urge to produce something he could hold at the end of a day of work. For the last six years Jonathan has been working to both grow and hone his knowledge of woodworking techniques and define his style. The majority of his education in this space has taken place at the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking in Manchester CT and the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport Maine.

He builds bespoke furniture inspired by period pieces using a combination of traditional hand-tool joinery (hand-cut dovetails, through-tenons and hand-planed, card-scraped surfaces) and modern tools. His modest workshop currently resides in a historic barn just off of his property in Suffield CT.

Alongside building commissioned residential and retail freestanding furniture, Jonathan, his wife and two dogs work towards restoring their 1765 home.

“Whenever you see one of my pieces, I want you to feel good knowing where it came from. You should feel secure in knowing it was made thoughtfully with the intention of being worth handing down one day.”
